I cant see the battery power in the top right corner after all the recent updates. Has this always been like this?

Unfortunately this is a side effect of moving to iOS 7.
The way the status bar currently looks is actually the natural look when running under iOS 7.
We're gradually going through the app, making cosmetic changes where necessary. This will be an ongoing process over the next few releases.
