Re: Barcode

hi,
having trouble with barcode information being save as 'number'.
originally entered barcodes but didnt format column to 'number' without decimal places etc. therefore when it saved it just saved as 'scientific' number. having realised my errror i have since been in and entered selected barcodes (just lines one new customer was taking), formatted the columns and saved. i then produced his order (in sales presenter) and the barcodes printed correctly so obviously the barcode info was saved correctly.
however, going back in the column has now reformatted itself and the barcodes i re-entered are no longer there. looking at order history in the sales presenter the actual order now shows the barcodes incorrectly as well having shown them as EAN13 when i emailed them a copy.
have searched forum for barcode problems and dont see anything coming up so may be something really basic i am doing wrong.

kind regards

Unfortuntaely this is an issue when loading the CSV file into a spreadsheet application, such as Excel, since the barcode value is seen as a huge number.

Another user had a similar problem with leading zeros being stripped off of zip codes. Please see the following topic for more information and a suggested workaround/way of working to preserve the values: http://www.bacapps.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?id=216

Not at the moment but we're working on the ability for a cloud account administrator (i.e. you) to be able to set up other logins that give limited access to the cloud account (such as only being able to access the Orders page). What level of access are you looking to give another user?

Re: Barcode

pretty much all access.
my role involves a good bit of travelling but am also office based a good deal of the time.
though it would be ideal to have someone office based to get to know their way around the cloud/data files so as they can react quicker to any changes that need making.
i kind of championed the ipad and blue alligator (on recommendations) for bedmaker so have set everything up so far and we (my colleage and i) are at a stage where we can see customers and take orders. however i know there is a lot of fine tuning to be done to use to its full potential.
my feeling is if there was someone else office based who could keep things updated then maybe 2 heads better than one when it comes to discussions about configuration/family codes etc.
also aware there is danger of the whole thing being messed up if 'too many cooks'.
might be easier if i just share my login details for now and see how we go.

have looked at the possible 'zipcode' solution to our barcode dilemma. will give it a go but dont know if it will work or not.
would have expected barcode numbers to be an essential addition for some users/customers. the fact it is already on the template would suggest this to be the case.

i was also expecting contact from someone in your sales dept with a suggestion on how i can get my stock figures onto ipad.

many thanks

paul

Re: Barcode

If they're going to have all access then, yes, they could just share your login details. There would be no advantage to having multiple logins.

The majority of users do use barcodes. However, for the majority of users their data is being extracted direct from a back-office system and up to their cloud account. The only time barcode values are usually an issue (due to the number of digits) is when managing CSV files manually using a spreadsheet application. In this instance, using a native spreadsheet file as the master data and saving it as a CSV file purely to upload to the cloud is the best way to retain the data intact.

I will chase up the sales team for you.
