The idea is to first show the group and dig deeper into the subgroups, shown on top in the navigation bar
How should be understand the inter-relationships between FamilyCode1, FamilyCode2,... ?

The way you're setting up your data looks ok.
Your family code 1 button would show "Balls" and your family code 2 button would show "Footballs", "Tennis balls" and "Basket balls".
At the moment there is no relationship between the different family code buttons but this is about to change. Please see the following topic for more information: http://www.bacapps.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?id=127
